"Dan" is Israel
It is said that childhood memories are those that stay most vivid as the time passes. Every one of us have that special moment, cherished by our memory, no matter how long ago it happened. To Gush Dan residents there is one childhood memory they share – travel in the "Dan" bus.
Only the experience of the ride may be slightly different– the older generation will still remember the old-fashioned stagecoaches, while the younger ones grew straight into the brand-new "Niedelflor" – the most modern and advanced bus in the world.
"Dan" cooperative was born on the 1st of December 1945 after two companies united their efforts: "Hamaavir" and "Ichud Regev" merged into one. Since then the captains of "Dan" steered wisely developing the system of urban transportation. While keeping up with the technological progress, the rapid development of big cities and also taking the geo-political changing situation into account "Dan" constantly improved its ways.
Today "Dan" is the biggest leading operator of public transportation in the Gush Dan region. Covering approximately 65% of the market it, it conveys close to 15 million passengers each month and covers about 53 km per year. Its major activity is concentrated in Gush Dan - the business center of the country, the area which produces 60% of the national product.
However, "Dan" company does not limit itself to Gush Dan only – its services cover also the transmission of passengers to Samaria and to Jerusalem, cooperating with "Egged" company.
The important milestone in the history of activity of "Dan" in recent years is its transformation from a cooperative into a business company ruled by financial and business considerations aimed at offering the best service to the customer. This significant step enhances the mobility of the company, basing on its most prominent advantages – wide area of activity in the metropolis, the long-time experience, efficiency and professionalism of its members, and developed support infrastructure.
The system of the company organization was modified in many aspects in the procedures and in its structure in order to adjust itself to the world market, while emphasizing the increased use of information technologies and putting all the efforts to make its fleet consist of the preeminent buses that there are today.
During the 60 years of its activity the "Dan" company gained not only experience but the high skill in the public service activation in urban areas, coping successfully with the density of population in the Tel Aviv area, developing wide infrastructures of the supporting services, such as public transportation planning, maintenance and logistics, information and computer services, passengers platforms and more.
